Maryland side of Assateague

We%26#39;ll be in Chincoteague VA in July, and we want to go to the Maryland side of Assateague as a day trip. I%26#39;m looking for the best route, and info on anything in the way of food or drink there or on the way. Any help will be appreciated!

Maryland side of Assateague

i think there%26#39;s really only one way. i%26#39;m looking at a map right now %26amp; the route numbers seem to change confusingly...but you take the only road out of chicoteague (175) %26amp; make a left just past wallops towards snow hill...proceed on 113 toward berlin. find 376 north to 611 %26amp; go east. i%26#39;d suggest mapquest for better directions but i think that%26#39;s the only way, really. can%26#39;t help with food %26amp; drink but there should be something in berlin.

the map i was looking at was one picked up at the refuge.

seems funny that you can%26#39;t drive directly from one to the other, but you can%26#39;t...even on the beach. there%26#39;s a fence on the beach at the state border...to keep the pony herds separate.

Thanks! That%26#39;s kind of what I thought - just wasn%26#39;t sure.

We%26#39;ve generally taken the backroads. If I followed the directions correctly, you%26#39;d be going up 13 to Pocomoke and 113 to Snow Hill.

We normally turn right in Wattsville onto Route 679 VA / Route 2 MD towards Snow Hill. From there take 113 towards Berlin and follow the signs to Assateague.

Its a good bit shorted but I don%26#39;t really know if its quicker. There%26#39;s nothing wrong with the roads and you can make good time.

Our trip to the Assateague National Seashore was a highlight of the week. We took 175 out of Chincoteague, picked up 679/12 near Wallops, 113 at Snow Hill, 376 at Berlin, and then 611 to the site. Coming back, we picked up 113 at Berlin, and then US 13 at Pocomoke City. On the way home, we stopped at Berlin at a place called Boomers Family Restaurant for a late lunch. Good food, prices, and service.

We enjoyed the ocean view and the ponies! They were not skittish and didn%26#39;t seem afraid of the humans. We just stood and watched them at the beach. We%26#39;ll probably go back again, it was just a good experience.
