The post about the ferry got me to thinking about how I will be going to OC in August. We come from NY down 95, across DE MEM Bridge. Just prior to Milford DE there is a decision to be made. Continue on 1 or go inland and down on 113. I have been opting for 113 lately. Seems to move a little better. We stay up in the condo area, so there is another decision to be made after that. That decision is after Millsboro, what I call the scenic route. I take 20 into 50 and come out by Fenwick. Then it is a short ride to 10100 Coastal Hwy!
Any opinions? Any alternatives?
Getting to OC from Delaware Mem Bridge
Not 100% on this but I think instead of cutting through Fenwick, keep driving south on 113 and then look for signs for route 90. Take route 90, go over the bridge and then you arrive right on coastal hwy. Check a map first. Good Luck.
Getting to OC from Delaware Mem Bridge
The ';best'; answer--assuming you want the fastest route--all depends on day of week/time of year/time of day. Note that it%26#39;s Rt. 54, not 50, that connects with 20 and takes you to Fenwick Island.
From the split at Milford, the inland route (113-20-54) will typically take 1 hour 15 minutes to Fenwick Island/North OC. The best thing about this route is that conditions are fairly predictable and It%26#39;s not subject to as many ';mood swings'; as conditions on Rt. 1.
If you%26#39;re on Rt. 54 during peak times and it%26#39;s backed up from Fenwick, you can avoid that congestion by turning right after Harpoon Hanna%26#39;s and connecting with 142nd St. in OC.
In the dead of winter with no traffic, taking Rt. 1 might be a few minutes less than the inland route. But unless it%26#39;s the dead of winter, it will likely take from 1.5-2 hours to get to Fenwick/North OC from the split using Rt. 1 due to all the congestion in the Rehoboth area.
Tubman, thanks for the correction on my routes, I was looking right at the map when I was typing, must have had a brain freeze. I was not aware of the cut thru to 142nd St, I will definitely use that. As for time of year, I agree with you. That stretch thru Rehoboth can be a killer. Being that I am travelling on a Saturday in August with the masses I will take the 113 route. Thanks for the info.
