After many attempts to alert the hotel management about my concerns
for the parrots unhealthy conditions which fell on deaf ears, I am
pleading to anyone who may know what can be done to remove
the graceful birds from this horrible conditions. If you read the reviews
for this hotel over the years; it is obvious that the dirty and molded
conditions of this hotels has not improved and I feel that the birds
are being abused. Not to mention the high chlorine and bromine
levels from the pools and hot tubs located close to their cages.
The people who clean the cages daily are instructed to spend
a total of forty five minutes to clean a tolal of twenty cages. No
time to socialize with them. Rats on running on the bottom of the
cages which I witnessed. ALso, there is a yellow nape whose
cage is placed right next to the lighted elevator that constantly goes up and down all day and night long. You can see the bird
is so tired and stressed from the constant noise. I don%26#39;t understand
how these birds have been left in these conditions. Doesn%26#39;t
Quality Inn stand for something if a majority of the reviews are
negative and comment on the unhealthy conditions of the rooms
and the run down conditions of the hotel. What are the laws for
animals kept in hotels. What can be done to close this place down
or report it to the proper authorities. I visited this place on Nov 12,
2006 have not forgotten about by feathered friends and want so
bad to take them out of their hell. I can%26#39;t even go to eastern shore
beach for I couldn%26#39;t enjoy myself knowing they are there and I haven%26#39;t done anything or reported it to someone. Do I need to
let the corporate office wherever that is know what one of their
hotels is doing to promote the neglect of animals. Why can%26#39;t
they build a large aviary so the birds can fly not stay in small
cages all day being subjected to loud noices from the pool and
bar. I will do or help anyone who can point me in the right direction
or would like to help in their plight.
P.S. There are a few reviews that state they feel the conditions of
the parrots environment isn%26#39;t that terrible. If they owned parrots and
really knew what kind of life they deserve they might feel differently.

Have you tried calling the local humane society to report these conditions?

As someone who works in the animal care field I understand your concern. I did a search and also found the info. for Worcester co. animal control which may be your better bet, but I%26#39;d call both. I%26#39;ve never been to this hotel so I don%26#39;t know of the conditions of the birds but it seems that there were a few reviews that also showed concern for the birds. You sound very passionate about your concern for the birds so I have a couple suggestions for you. You need to keep up with this. I would be prepared with a list of all your concerns, maybe do a little research online. I would also make a copy of those reviews that also showed concern for the birds and mail them to a contact person. If someone tells you they will do an UNANNOUNCED search ask when and follow up on what happened. Good Luck, animals don%26#39;t have enough cheerleaders I hope your concerns are addressed.

It sometimes takes tenacity to right a wrong. I admire your selfless concern for the plight of these birds....animals have rights too...evidently management needs a sterner admonishment...perhaps the birds will be seized if they can%26#39;t improve the conditions by a specified deadline (now THAT would probably do the trick!).
Best Wishes
keep us updated i am there in August and will check it out also and complain if neccesary.
We have stayed here several times in the off season. We also own several parrots. Although the conditions are not optimum, imho the birds are treated well. They are fed regularly, given fruit and other foods besides regular feed. The cages are always kept clean. The birds are given the opportunity to be out, but my observations are that they do not want to go out of the cage, probably because of guests not treating them well. They are covered at night. Most of them are talkative and respond well (if you know what you are doing). I agree that the ones by the elevator should probably be moved. I am not sure what the chlorine smell%26#39;s effect on them is, although if it was bad I would expect they would have had some deaths and I know that is not the case because I have seen the same parrots there for several years. Lastly, I observed one parrot that had gotten hurt (don%26#39;t know the cause) while we were there and it was immediately taken to a vet and treated. We saw it later that day and had definitely been treated.
I wonder if contacting WBOC would do anything. I have seen them take a stand before on animal neglect, but I think it would a tough thing to get them to look into.
