DC to Baltimore

Hi, I%26#39;m gonna visit DC for a few days. On the flight back, I am thinking of flying from DCA in DC or going to Baltimore in the morning, then take a late flight from BWI back home. Do you think I could do anything in Baltimore in 8 hours and is it worth to do so?

Thank you

DC to Baltimore

If you truly have eight hours in Baltimore after figuring in transit time from DC, transit to BWI, and waiting time in advance of your flight at BWI, then yes, there%26#39;s plenty you could do in eight hours in Baltimore.

Without knowing any of your specific interests, perhaps you should either make them known or select a few attractions that you%26#39;d want to visit (see the ';Baltimore Attractions'; link here) and post your top choices. Armed with this information, you can get much more effective feedback as to how much of it you%26#39;ll be able to accomplish in eight hours.

That having been said--the most generic recommendation for the average visitor to Baltimore is the National Aquarium. That%26#39;s about a two-hour commitment. Just walking around to generically check out the Inner Harbor is another hour. What to do with the other five hours? Hmmm...

DC to Baltimore

Thank you tubman. I think it takes 30-40 minutes from DC to Baltimore, therefore I might be there at 9am until 4pm, then I will have 2 hours left to catch my flight.

I just looked through Baltimore attractions and I would love to go to the Inner Habour, and maybe the Fort, some flea/street market. I%26#39;m not so much into museums. Well, in fact I always like maybe just walking down the streets that are typical of that place, but this time I have to think twice because I am going to have one carry-on with me all the time. Can you suggest some must-go places in Baltimore?

By the way, do you know what is the best way to go from DC to Baltimore, and then from the attractions to the airport?

Thanks

Addressing the last part of your inquiry first:

Since you%26#39;re looking to start early in the morning--If your day in Baltimore is during the week, you can take the MARC commuter rail from Union Station in DC to Camden Station. The 8:05 train gets you into Baltimore at 9:16. It may seem long, but the cost is low ($7) and it takes you right into the Inner Harbor area without additional connections.

If we%26#39;re talking Saturday or Sunday, Amtrak is your best bet. It will take you to Penn Station in Baltimore in about 40 minutes (fares vary, usually around $15-$20), but you%26#39;ll then need to take either a taxi or light-rail train into the Inner Harbor area.

From the Inner Harbor to BWI, the light rail takes about 1/2 hour, and delivers you right to the terminal for $1.60. If you%26#39;re pressed for time, take a taxi.

What to see? Based on what you%26#39;ve said, just walking around you%26#39;ll do pretty well. Neighborhoods close to downtown with a lot of character include Fells Point, Canton, Highlandtown, Little Italy, Mt. Vernon, Federal Hill. A lot of these are close to the water and accessible via the Water Taxi.
