My mom, aunt %26amp; I will be flying into Baltimore and spending an afternoon/evening before heading on to D.C. the following day.
Any recommendations for must-see attractions in a short amount of time? Also seeking suggestions for places to stay. Looking for an area with character and a little history.
Thank you!

I think the Fells Point neighborhood would be a wonderful place for you to stay - definitely has character and more than a little history (cobblestone streets, historic walking tours, etc). My favorite hotel in that area is the Henderson%26#39;s Wharf Inn - really beautiful and right on the water. Otherwise, there are a few B and Bs - Ann Street B and B is on a quieter street, Celies Waterfront is on a main drag. The Admiral Fell Inn is also a wonderful old hotel, but on the main square. For Celies and the Admiral, I would reccomend asking for an interior room if you are going to be there on a Friday or Saturday night (it can get noisy). For Henderson%26#39;s Wharf/Ann street, they are on side streets, so no noise problem.
You can take a water taxi from Fells Point to the Inner Harbor, which is where most of the ';must see'; sights are. The biggest one I think is the Aquarium, which really is fantastic (and not just for kids!). The other really special thing Baltimore has is the American Visionary Arts Museum (on the opposite side of the Inner Harbor from the Aquarium, so you%26#39;d take the water taxi a bit further - probably to the Rusty Scupper restaurant stop and then walk up a small hill to get to the museum). It is really spectacular - here is the website: http://www.avam.org/
With just an afternoon and an evening, you probably can%26#39;t do both. If it was me, I would do the Visionary Arts Museum because it is one of a kind. If you had extra time (and energy) after the museum, you could stop by Federal Hill Park (right next to the museum), which has amazing views of the Harbor. Then you could walk down to the little cute main drag of the Federal Hill neighborhood, starting at the famous Cross Street food market and walking down Light Street until you are back at the Inner Harbor (to water taxi back to Fells Point). That would be a nice way to spend an afternoon in B-more.
If you want some good B-more seafood, I%26#39;d reccomend John Stevens restaurant in Fells Point (just a few blocks from any of the hotels/B and Bs mentioned). It is a local favorite.

i agree. go to red star or one eyed mikes to eat and take the water taxi to fells point to explore. it also can take you to ft. mchenry/inner harbor. just go on the water taxi or take a duck tour and get to see everyting in a short time.
Thank you both for your suggestions - Fells Point is exactly the type of neighborhood I was looking for...and really appreciate the food suggestions. Always looking for good places to eat :-)
