motels outside ocean city

We have our condo for sat aug 4. We have off friday, so we want to get a jump start on the vacation and drive down from NY on Friday aug 3. We are looking for a place to stay Friday nite. Don%26#39;t want to spend big bucks, but do not want to stay at a flea bag either. Does anyone have any recommendations for places within a half hr or so of ocean city. Berlin? Selbyville? West OC? Ocean Pines? Bishopville?

Thanks,

Tom

There really aren%26#39;t a lot of options 1/2 hour out--along Rt. 50 in West OC: Alamo Motel (almost universally panned), Francis Scott Key Inn (fairly good reviews).

There%26#39;s the Victorian-style Atlantic Hotel in Berlin, which is perhaps too nice and likely outside your price range.

It all may be a moot point--even the worst motels close-in can get booked early at relatively high rates. You may have to extend your range to Salisbury (one hour) to get a decent room that isn%26#39;t subject to beach-inflated room rates.

Tubman,

I see your point. I think I am going to look at Dover DE area. That is 3 1/2 hrs from our start and will give me a short 1 1/2 hr ride on Sat AM to get to OC. That way I am not doubling back. I can get to the beach in the AM and hang out until our unit is ready and not have to deal with a lot of traffic on Sat.

There seems to be quite a few chain motels in that area, not a lot of info on the approriate forums. Anyone stay in the Dover area?

Good call on Dover, but also consider hotels in Harrington and Milford further along the way on Rt. 113.

While there%26#39;s not a lot of hotel chatter in the Delaware forums, there are plenty of reviews in the Dover hotel section of TA to help you make a decision.

Not so many reviews of the other towns I mentioned.

There%26#39;s a Quality Inn and a Days Inn in Pocomoke City, not far from OC. Check out the reviews first.

and a Holiday Inn Express.
