Young children

Any suggestions as to where to go, stay and what to do with 2 young children ( 9 months %26amp; 2 1/2 yrs) in Chesapaeake Bay area?

Young children

Only Suggestion: Don%26#39;t stay in Chesapeake Beach. No offense to anyone who lives there but it isn%26#39;t necessarily a good place to stay. Solomons Island is a little better. There is a Hilton Garden Inn hotel that they are building and I believe it will be opened in July. Check out the Hilton website to verify.

MrsMaryland%26#39;s information is about 40 years old. Back then it was run down. Today it is a fantastic little community, as is its neighbor North Beach and together they are called the Twin Beaches. There are plenty of cottages to stay in and a very nice spa/hotel. Food is fantastic, especially at some of the neighborhood places such as Neptunes. For recreation there are beaches in both cities though the one in Chesapeake Beach may be hard to find. There is a water park four young people, boating, parks, and more. It is also just a short drive to miniture golf, shopping, Annapolis, and DC. Solomons is more of an adult place but not bad. Cross the river and you can take the kids to Patuxent River Naval Air Station, where the astronauts train, and there is a museum. A little further is a great bit of history. I came down here from Cleveland, Ohio and loved it so much I moved. Have a great stay.

To each his own. I don%26#39;t like the looks of the place. Yeah, there is a water park that looks like it%26#39;s been there ';40 years'; and it%26#39;s nothing to call home about. I don%26#39;t let my children stay or play in anything that I wouldn%26#39;t stay or play in. That%26#39;s just my personal feelings.

However, I believe there is a Chesapeake beach section on this site, if you go there, you can review what it has to offer and the various hotels there. And I am not necessarily it isn%26#39;t a horrible place, I just don%26#39;t think I would recommend it for visitors. Now me being a local (live less than 45 minutes away) I would go there for a nice Saturday or Sunday night get away just to get away from home. But for a tourist you could probably be done with your vacation in 3 hours.

First let me write that I have been telling people about Chesapeake Beach for years and everyone of them who has visited has come back for a second, third, etc. trip. I believe repeat business is the best endorsement.

People have been going to the Chesapeake Beach/North Beach area for vacations since the early 1900’s. and they continue to do so today. Many stay for a week or two, some just a day but the numbers are increasing and this is evidenced by the new condominiums, townhouses, hotel, and single family homes that have been built recently for residents and renters.

While the Chesapeake Bay remains the biggest draw, the new restaurants, train museum, spa, modern water park, fishing, and close proximity to everything bring people from all over the country. You can drive to DC, Annapolis, or Baltimore in less than an hour and quite a few people do.

And one thing I love about the area is, it does not look like the typical vacation place. You don’t find cheap trinket and bathing suit places on every corner and prices don’t skyrocket during the summer.

The Boardwalk in the North Beach area is a huge attraction. The beach is shallow enough for small children and as clean as anything you will find in Hawaii. You can swim, fish from the pier that extends well into the Bay, enjoy concerts and festivals, walk, ride your bicycle, or just sit and watch. The many pet stations make it very friendly for everyone and everything.

Have a boat? There are several ramps right in the heart of Chesapeake Beach as well as an abundance of docks where you will find boats all year long.

Want to eat crabs? There are plenty of places for that. Put on your old clothes, walk to Abeno’s (or Traders, or etc.) and they will even teach you the right way. Enjoy your meal while watching the boats in the river.

Like wildlife? Obviously there is a great amount of it in the Bay but keep an eye out for it at all times. Deer, Eagles, Heron, and more are always around. Oh, and then there are the ducks and geese. Don’t be surprised to see some large 16 wheeler stopped on rout 261 while they cross the street.

By the way, I don’t own a restaurant, hotel, or rental cottage so I have nothing to gain by this endorsement. I do live here though and know the area quite well. I am not 45 minutes away which would easily put me in another State (hardly local).

I am going here for a wedding and can%26#39;t find anywhere else to stay other than the chesapeake beach resort %26amp; spa. We would stay in another hotel or perhaps a house/condo. Please let me know some other choices I have. Thank you!

Ker000: You should be fine staying there. It%26#39;s not a dump it%26#39;s just probably a little overpriced for that area and what%26#39;s there in town. They can do that because there are no other hotels.

Maybe try Prince Frederick. It%26#39;s just about 25 minutes away.

-Holiday Inn Express there is pretty nice.

If you don%26#39;t mind staying 35 minutes from Chesapeake Beach how about the new Hilton Garden Inn in Dowell/Solomons, MD near the Patuxent Naval Station. There%26#39;s also a Holiday Inn Select there as well.

But you should be fine staying at the resort unless it was just too expensive for you.

Hope this helps.

MsMaryland, why do you hate Chesapeake Beach? People go there every day for the day, weekend, or week. And they keep coming back. You don%26#39;t live anywhere near here and probably have never been here to visit. If you have to keep telling people these errors of yours, then why not talk about the White House. That is overpriced.

EdBoyle: Who said I hated chesapeake beach? First off, I am giving my opinion on an area for visitors. And yes, I have visited on several occassions too many to give an exact number. And for your information I live in Southern PG County which for your information is only about 25-30 min away from that area. I go there all of the time on at least 2 weekends a month. I go to markets in that area and I visit friends in Chesapeake and Solomons Island. So for YOUR INFORMATION, I don%26#39;t have a PROBLEM with that area. I simply don%26#39;t find it to be a TOURIST town. It%26#39;s more of a place where US LOCALS can go for a nice Sat. or Sun get away and relax along the Chesapeake. SORRY TO HAVE GOT YOUR BRICHES ALL IN A KNOT.

MY PERSONAL OPINION should not bother you so much. I may have said not to come but I NEVER SAID I HATE CHESAPEAKE BEACH. For all you know I could be trying to keep people away so it doesn%26#39;t become too developed or crowded.

If you would have read my previous post, you would have noticed that I said IT WAS ';NOT'; A DUMP. Meaning it%26#39;s not a bad place IN MY OPINION IT';S NOT GRAND. The person asked was there any place else that they could stay OTHER THAN the only resort in Chesapeake Beach. I DO THINK I HAVE A RIGHT TO RESPOND HONESTLY AND GIVE THAT PERSON SOME OTHER SUGGESTIONS. Now if it%26#39;s ok with you I can and WILL keep responding as I see fit because I am a very HELPFUL person who goes throughout the DC/MD/VA area and am very particular of certain things and I see things that other don%26#39;t see. I have an eye for certain things and I like to relay that information to others so they can have an ';OPEN-MINDED'; perspective of a certain place.

Now Mr/Mrs. EdBoyle, thank you for your ';Observation of my comments'; and my current living arrangements. Now I will ';observe'; the questions and answer accordingly and not give personal attacks on anyone who is a poster on these forums.

Have a pleasant DAY. :-)

Interesting. First, there are no “markets” in Chesapeake Beach. Second, Chesapeake Beach is not all that close to Solomon Island. Third, you earlier posted that you lived about 40 minutes away and not the 25 minutes you now claim.

Look, no matter what you say, vacationers visit Chesapeake Beach and North Beach every day. And they keep coming back. I believe that says a lot more than anything you or I can say but it does lean more toward what I have posted.

This is an area where people smile at you, and talk to you even if you are a stranger. We feel friendly to everyone and make them feel at home. We are not a big city and don’t want to be one. You are not going to come here and find Ocean or Atlantic City but you will not step in dog droppings, get mugged, pay excessive amounts for trinkets, or hate yourself for making the trip. You are going to enjoy yourself and the people you meet.

So cut the junk. You post invalid information on almost everyplace anybody has a question about. If that is how you want to be, fine. But leave Southern Maryland alone. There are quite a few people who love it down here and many more who have great memories of their time here. We are happy to share with them and don’t need negative people like you.

This sooo funny. I hope you both look back on your posts and laugh. Anyway, Chesapeake Beach is AWESOME!!!!! I have THREE BOYS, 4 and set of 2 1//2 y.o. twins. There is nothing better than a good time on the beach. BREEZY POINT has jellyfish nets for safe swimming with picnic area, unbrellas, bar-b-ques and the very important PLAYGROUND AREA. .$6 a car load. There are TONS of beach rentals right now and you could probably get a kickin%26#39; deal right now since there are some For Rent signs up right now. I LOVE CHESAPEAKE BEACH. I lived in Prince Frederick for 2 years and although it is expanding with some yummy new restaurants, MAMA LUCIA%26#39;S.... But pretty plain and boring.

I have no idea where Mrs.Chesapeake gets her info but if you got kids and they love fun... I have no doubt you will find it here. I am a local and avoid driving through Prince Frederick as often as possible. I FULLY Agree with EdBoyle about what a great place ';The Beach'; is.

The waterpark is fun and jellyfish free. Only $10 per adult and 8 for kids under 48';. After 4pm is ';supposedly'; a great deal but it%26#39;s only a couple dollars off and 3 hrs is usually not enough for my kids. The Lazy river is fatastic, and although it is not big (go during the week, less crowd) I can keep a watchful eye and still relax.

LETS NOT FORGET THE PIER!!!!!!! Imaginations run wild while scanning for your dreamboat. ROD N%26#39; REEL has a very good Sunday Brunch and a small slot area. Popular by the locals at night. The night life in here is great. You can always crash a bon fire while cruising for Horseshoe crabs during high tide.

Possibilities are endless.
