Visiting Johns Hopkin Hospital- Hotels in Baltimore

My husband and I are visiting the last of July. What are some of the nice, safe hotels in this area?

Any suggestions on what else to see and do?

Thanks

Visiting Johns Hopkin Hospital- Hotels in Baltimore

The Inner Harbor hotels are very safe and easy walking distance from attractions.

I love the new Hampton Inn at Camden Yards. Very safe and BRAND NEW. I think they have a hospital rate that is pretty good. www.baltimorecamdenyards.hamptoninn.com

Lots to do in the Harbor. Check out www.baltimore.org to get a good idea of what there is to do....better yet, when you get to Baltimore, check out the visitor%26#39;s center in the Harbor.

The hospital itself is not in a safe area, so make sure you take a cab from your hotel- don%26#39;t try to walk.

The nicest hotel to stay in (but NOT the most expensive) would be the Henderson Wharf Inn - check out the reviews on trip advisor. You can get to the Inner Harbor attractions via water taxi, but then come back to a less glitzy area as your home base for dinner, etc. The Inn itself has real character, is extremely comfortable and includes breakfast and parking (which you will have to pay extra for at any of the Inner Harbor hotels).

Staying at the Henderson%26#39;s is a nice way to see the historic Fells Point neighborhood, which has lots of cute shops, restaurants, etc. It can be a little rowdy late at night on the weekends (lots of bars), but the hotel is located down a very nice quiet residential street (it%26#39;s actually on the water) and assuming you don%26#39;t plan to be out eating dinner at 11pm, this shouldn%26#39;t affect you. My favorite restaurant in Fells Point is John Stevens LTD, which is a local favorite with great seafood and a nice tented patio area. If you are feeling adventuresome, the tapas restaurant Pazzo in that area gets good reviews as well.

I think, in addition to the Aquarium which is a must see, the most interesting things in B-more are the museums. The Visionary Arts Museum (water taxi ride from Fells Point) is really one of a kind in the country. The Baltimore Museum of Art and the Walters Art Gallery are also nice, but you will have to drive there.

(they have jazz in the sculpture garden while you are in town)

I would also suggest looking into performances of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (http://www.baltimoresymphony.org/ ) or a play at Center Stage if you like theater (http://www.centerstage.org/index.php ).

Definitely pick a hotel in the Inner Harbor area and take a cab back and forth to the hospital. Inner Harbor is very tourist friendly and you will find plenty to do. AS prev writer suggested, stop by the visitors center for brochures and coupons [ and suggestions]. Plenty of waterfront shopping and restaurants, Science center, Aquarium, watertaxi to Fells Point for more shopping and eating, Little Italy, ESPN Zone, take in a baseball game[ unfortunately with the Orioles doing poorly, tickets are for the most part available, Sports Legends Museum etc. If you have no luck with Hendersons, the other major chain hotels are represented in the Inner Harbor area- Marriott, Hyatt Regency, Rennassiance, Sheraton.

One suggestion regarding parking at Johns Hopkins Hospital, if you opt to drive consider the valet parking. It is available at the main entrance to the hospital. It may be a little pricey but it is worth the peace of mind. The surrounding areas around the hospital are not ';tourist friendly';.
