Baltimore with kids

We are going to be in Baltimore in September for a comic convention. We have gotten tickets for the Red Sox game and we are trying to come up with some other things that might interest the kids. Any suggestions? My kids are 9 and 15. Also, how far is NYC from Baltimore?

Baltimore with kids

Just got back from Baltimore with 8 year old son.

Legends Museum At Camden Yards (just outside the ballpark), Babe Ruth Museum (2 short blocks SW of ballpark), Ft. McHenry, Water taxis around the Inner Harbor. Check google maps for distance to NYC.

If you are interested in taking a side trip from Baltimore, have you considered Annapolis (about 45 minute car ride depending on traffic) or even DC (about an hour to an hour and half ride on a good day). DC can also be reached by the MARC train. Philly is also 90 miles north on 95. If you are history buffs Gettysburg is an easy ride west of Baltimore.

Your children might enjoy the ESPN zone, the Musuem of Industry or one of the harbor cruises while you are in Baltimore. If you like Italian food check out the dining in Little Italy, there are many restaurants there. Make sure you stop at Vaccaros for dessert, you will not be disappointed.

There%26#39;s Ft McHenry for a real American history lesson - it%26#39;s not far from the inner harbor. At the harbor you%26#39;ll find the National Aquarium and the MD Science Center not to mention one of my faves the American Visionary Art museum (which is an art museum that even kids would like - google it). You could take the water taxi over to Fells Point for some good food and a nice break from the touristy harbor. NYC is 3 1/2 - 4 hours away...there are some cheap buses that run between Baltimore and NYC.

dont forget the zoo..took me 4 hrs in big truck goin 70, baltimore to newark

Many of the above suggestions are good. If you want to go to NYC. You may want to consider a day trip by bus. Hunt Valley Motorcoach drops you off in NYC not far from times square and takes you back to the park and ride you got on at. If go during the week, its a little cheaper. I personally wouldn%26#39;t want to drive in NYC. Ft Mc Henry would make a nice trip as well and so would DC. If you go to DC, I suggest taking the Metro. It stops right at the Mall (center of attractions in DC- its not to be confused with a shopping mall). The Holocost or the Spy museums are well worth it along with Natural History Museum.

thanks for all the suggestions! I think that we are going to take a day and go to DC. Now I just have to figure out that MARC train. I am from Indiana and we don%26#39;t have any mass transit like that. lol!

Also, don%26#39;t forget the Ducks Tour:

I would also check the days of operation for the MARC, I believe it is only Monday through Friday.

Actually I WOULD forget the Duck Tour. You get to see a LOT more of the Harbor on the water taxis and they are about $10 a day, all you can ride. The Duck Thing costs about $20-$30 a person.

ducks tour, aquarium is always a hit

my kids LOVE the science center. take them there - they have a gross exhibit about snot and gas and poop that kids their age will love. gross!

there are tons of things to do. take them on a water taxi and get off all the stops and explore.
