Thinking of going to see a show at the Ottobar (N. Howard Street, near Hopkins), but with 3 bands on the bill, I suspect I may not want to stay in there all night. Wondering if there are any other places to go out in the area nearby... Thanks!
Anything to do near Ottobar?
The last time I was around there (which admittedly has been a while), the only thing close by the Ottobar was the Rendezvous Lounge (136 W 25th St b/w Howard and Mace). It is the quintessential dive bar hangout populated by serious alcoholics, indie rockers/hipsters and a sometimes disturbing criminal element. I would say this is a pretty accurate assesment (review from 3 years ago), except I think he goes a little too heavy on how scary it is - don%26#39;t be put off by this. I%26#39;m a woman and went there plenty of times and felt just fine. It is definitely out of the comfort zone for your average soccer mom, but that is part of what makes it fun. More fun with friends (the people watching can be really stellar).

Other than the Rendezvous, the only thing I can think of is the Paper Moon Diner in case you get hungry, which is at 227 W. 29th street (just walk up Howard to 29th and take a left). It%26#39;s a funky place - good times, particularly post show (it%26#39;s open 24 hrs).

Thanks for the tips! I already went to the show, but will keep these places in mind for next time.
